Update: London (Central) Employment Tribunal

  • Posted

I have been asked by Judge Barry Clarke, President of Employment Tribunals in England and Wales, to circulate the message below.

HMCTS closed Victory House, the hearing venue used by London Central Employment Tribunal, on Thursday 17 December 2020. This was a precautionary measure while investigations were carried out into the building’s mechanical air ventilation system.

The ventilation system at Victory House has since been assessed. It is operational, but further tests are required to ensure a COVID-secure environment in order for HMCTS to re-open the building. Additional tests are due to be undertaken on Tuesday 29 December 2020.

In light of this, the following will happen:
- All hearings listed to take place by telephone and video in January 2021 will go ahead as planned, and some in-person or hybrid hearings may be changed to wholly remote hearings. Parties should send in electronic bundles for those hearings in good time, as already instructed.

- Where an in-person hearing remains appropriate, alternative venues will be found. Alternative venues have already been found for in-person cases being heard at London Central Employment Tribunal during the week commencing Monday 4 January 2021.

All efforts are being made to avoid postponing hearings and to notify affected parties and their representatives in regard to their individual cases.

A further update will be circulated towards the end of the week commencing Monday 4 January 2021.
