Remote Tribual Hearings in Scotland

  • Posted

The President of Employment Tribunals (Scotland) has issued a Practice Direction and further informal guidance on the fixing and conduct of remote hearings.

One interesting aspect is that the parties will have to conduct tests with a clerk a few days before any remote video hearing. If the parties lack the technology (or technological competence) to use the Cloud Video Platform, the judge will reconsider the decision to hold a remote video hearing. This is a sensible idea, and it is also likely to reduce people faffing around at the outset of the actual hearing.

I took part in a demonstration of the Cloud Video Platform earlier this week. Here is my Twitter thread on what I thought about it.
