Do you want to be an Employment Judge?

  • Posted

The Judicial Appointments Commission will shortly be launching two separate selection exercises for the Employment Tribunals in England and Wales. The first exercise aims to recruit up to 50 fee paid Employment Judges. It will be run alongside the chambers of the First-tier Tribunal. It opens for registration in March 2023. The second exercise aims to recruit up to 50 full-time equivalent salaried Employment Judges. This is also due to open in March 2023. It seeks to deliver successful candidates to start sitting in 2024, chiefly (but not exclusively) across London and the South East of England. The salaried exercise is only open to those with prior judicial (or quasi-judicial) experience. More information on the exercises will appear in due course on the website of the Judicial Appointments Commission (here).

In the meantime, those interested in either role can register for an online application seminar to be held via Microsoft Teams at 5-6pm on Wednesday 15 February 2023. The seminar has been organised by the Judicial Diversity Committee. Speakers at the seminar will include the President of Employment Tribunals in England and Wales and a Regional Employment Judge. Potential applicants can find further information about the seminar (including how to register) and eligibility criteria on the Judicial Careers Portal (here). Other queries may be addressed to JudicialHRDiversityEvents@judiciary.uk.
